“Songwriter Dan Arnes named his band, the Brooklyn trio Leapling, after the term for leap-year babies; he also is one himself. That can't help but inform the wistful themes — stagnation and maturity, missed opportunities and the ability to live in the moment — at play… equally defined by loose immediacy and taut restraint; frayed outbursts and bright, singable melodies adorned with swooning string arrangements… calm rumination briefly gives way to the disquieting heartache buried just underneath the skin, it's a satisfying jolt.” — Mike Katzif, NPR

“Genre rock is kind of like genre fiction. It's boring and paint-by-numbers, but there will always be a market for it… You can be a successful garage rock band or romance author, but nobody is going to… erect bronze statues of you in public parks. Those rewards are for the artists who try to do something different… New York four-piece Leapling is trying for something new, and the results are fantastic…psychedelic rock, dream pop, krautrock, and even some funk… they synthesize the influences into something greater than the sum of the parts… Leapling doesn't have a statue in a park yet, but they deserve one… A plaque, at the very least.
